GO ANDERSON!

As we go into these last few weeks of the season you need to be reminded of how different you are now from those first practices back in early November.  You are more knowledgeable about this sport, more physically fit to do this sport, and more emotionally settled to be able to compete in this sport.  But this season is not over yet.  A number of you are taking your new found confidence and expanding your lives by trying out for teams that are beginning pre-season training for their spring season.  That is good. I applaud you doing these new and different things.  (When swim season is over I am going to go back to taking painting/art classes that I started for the first time last fall.)   But before you go, I want you to fulfill your commitment to this team and to me.
Please tell your other coaches that you have to keep your word and finish this season before you start the next one. Please talk to me and let me know what other practice demands are being made on you.  Your word of commitment will carry much weight to that coach because he/she will see that you are responsible and reliable.  And the good thing is you will be in excellent physical condition when you start the next sport you are going to do!  You don't really think I am going to let you be a couch potato in these last few weeks, do you?.
The most valuable gift that one person can give another is time and attention.  To the person who receives time and attention it says that they are worthwhile and important in the world.  But time is not a gift to be wasted.  It is a fragile gift in the sense that once it has gone it can never be brought back and exchanged.  In the movie Star Wars I - The Phantom Menace the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn says, "Your focus is your reality."   I want your focus and your time for 3 more weeks.  It won't all be "blood, sweat, toil and tears."  There will be laughter too because that is also an important part of the work.  I want the reality of this season to be one without any regrets or thoughts of what might have been if only a little more time had been spent on this sport in this season. You can do it and I will help.
                                                                  See you on deck.

A BIG THANK YOU to all who volunteered to time at Southwest Classic!! Swim team requires A LOT of parent participation and fortunately we have GREAT parents!

FAVC is this Saturday. The official stuff will come from Ed and Mr. F. I just want to strongly encourage any parent who has never been to a meet at Miami University to go to this meet. It is VERY cool. My son said he is very glad that FAVC is there so more kids will get to experience swimming there. The drive is not bad--1 hour and 15 min to 1 1/2 hours, car pooling is always a good idea. You may have to walk a bit so dress accordingly. There is metered street parking and a paid garage so add some change or a few extra dollars. We may have to provide a few timers for this meet. I will look for volunteers there. I wouldn't think more than 2.

We have a pasta dinner this Friday January 25th beginning at 6:30 at the home of Jessica Shelton; 7225 Woodcroft Dr. Mrs. Shelton just volunteered for this (THANKS!) and may need some help. Her number is in the Anderson directory if you want to offer to help.

We also have a pasta dinner next Monday night, Jan. 28th, before the TURPIN meet. This dinner will be hosted by the Aukermans also beginning at 6:30; 8537 Morningcalm Dr. If you know the Aukermans, offer to help.

Tues. is the BIG meet. The kids have a good time with this meet. It is a FUN rivalry in the swim world (let's not talk football!). Subs will be provided for those interested. PLEASE remember the deadline is Thursday. The money is trickling in. Just don't forget, money or a slip saying 'no thanks' so I can order correctly. DIVERS ON THE EMAIL LIST---make sure your teammates got the message, $5.00 for Jersey Mikes, pretzels and drink. If you can't get the money in on time let me know by this Thursday and you can pay me Tuesday the 29th.

Tuesday is senior recognition. We will be graduating 19 swimmers and 1 diver! Hopefully all senior parents have gotten the bio form to Ed or will do so BY THURSDAY THE 24th! PLEASE be at the pool deck by 4:45. Trust me, I know that's hard!

Guess what--we need workers for the meet. We need a non senior parent to do admissions. You will need to be at the pool by 4- 4:15. PLEASE if you are available, let me know. We also need timers--be there at 5. So far we have Jodi Vigar, Pete Ward and Teri Asbury and a Blake or two. Still need 7-8 more. Let me know! Freshman parents--take note of the boys hair at the Turpin meet. It's going to get even better!

Hope you're all enjoying your swimmer/ diver's season!
